We need to invest in equipment, reeds, snare skins and transport to continue the development of the band.
About this cause
City of Discovery Pipe Band were formed in late 2014 with the aim of providing a platform for young pipers in drummers in Dundee and the surrounding area to compete at the top level of RSPBA contests. In our debut season in 2015 we were placed in all 5 Major Championships at Grade 3A in RSPBA contests, including winning the Grade 3A European Championships, we were subsequently promoted to Grade 2. In 2016 we established ourselves in Grade 2, just missing out on the prizes. In 2017 our second season Grade 2 and only our 3rd year in existence we were placed 4th at the European Championships and 6th at the UK Championships. We are easily the youngest band in Grade 2 with an average age of 20 but we have bandsman as young as 13 competing at this top level.
How this cause brings people in the community together
We operate from Lochee and also from Stobswell, this will give our bandsman, many are under 18 and come from areas of multiple deprevation opportunities to continue competing with the band and promoting Dundee on a world stage. We are competing at the 2nd top of 9 grades and truly reach a global audience.
