We want to provide joyful community dance sessions for young disabled people in Torbay including Mayfield and Coombe Pafford schools.
About this cause
Dance in Devon is the county development organisation for dance. We create opportunities for our communities to take part in and enjoy dance activities. We develop projects that respond to local need for example youth dance in Exeter, dance for dementia in North Devon or dance for disabled children and their families in Torquay. We know that taking part in dance can provide the contact, both verbal and non-verbal, with others that helps people to feel connected with their communities. Facilitates joyful, expressive experiences in dance. We work across the county, with a base in Dartington and also support a network of professional dance artists that deliver our work. Dance is for everybody and we work to make it possible for everyone to Dance through Life!
How this cause brings people in the community together
Disabled children are very likely to be excluded from regular dance activity in their communities. The sessions will also be a chance for siblings and family members to join in and dance together. Dance can develop communication skills and physical skills and confidence. It can also encourage selfÂ-expression and creativity. Creative, expressive activity aids a sense of worth and belonging.
