About this cause

The Youth Counselling Project delivers free, psychotherapeutic counselling to primary and secondary school children in East Sussex who are experiencing mental health difficulties, and who have been referred to the project by their school. We help children facing a range of issues, including anxiety, low mood and self harm. The focus is on early intervention, ideally before acute need develops, in order to give vulnerable children strategies for coping with mental health problems and to enable them to continue to engage in education and to improve their life chances. We give children who are suffering from mental health issues access to community services which they would not otherwise be able to afford.

How this cause brings people in the community together

The project aims to: increase awareness of mental health difficulties within the community; strengthen links between individuals, schools and local services; provide coping strategies to encourage self-help and self-responsibility; improve life chances of young people experiencing mental health difficulties, thereby reducing inequality and bringing long-term benefits to the local community.
