About this cause

To promote the objectives of the Riding for the Disabled Association incorporating carriage driving by providing disabled people with the opportunity to ride and/or to carriage drive to benefit their health and wellbeing We are a local registered charity based at Thornton House Farm, Thornton near Pocklington. We provide activity for disabled individuals, both children and adults, from the Goole, Hull ,York, Market Weighton and Pocklington areas from April to November each year. Although we are part of a national organisation, a voluntary committee manages our group, with volunteers assisting with the day to day running. All helpers and instructors work on a voluntary basis. We are self funded through fundraising and kind donations. There are no salaried positions within the group.

How this cause brings people in the community together

It is essential to keep our horse tack up to date for safety reasons and for the health of the horse. By doing this the horse can continue to give many years service for our riders , whilst remaining healthy and comfortable itself. The assists our local community as it means a number of rider continues to get a place at our riding facility. This is a much appreciated service.
