About this cause

We operate a winter night shelter from November to March annually for up to 14 street homeless men and women per night in a friendly, safe and secure environment, mainly in church halls. In addition to a bed for the night we provide hot drinks, a hot dinner, breakfast and a packed lunch. Pre-Christmas 7 churches host the shelter for one night of the week each for 7/8 weeks and post-Christmas 14 other churches host the shelter for one night of the week each for between 4 and 13 weeks, hence the 'floating' shelter. The 'guests' are given maps to help find the location of the churches.

How this cause brings people in the community together

By providing overnight accommodation for up to 14 homeless people per night during the coldest months of the year we are relieving pressure on Croydon Council Housing Department, the police and the National Health Service. We have over 1,000 volunteers (an average of 50 per church) helping with this project across the Borough
