About this cause

Autism NI is a parent led partnership organisation formed in 1990 by parents and professionals to address the need for appropriate services. The organisation exists to support individuals and their families and campaigns to raise awareness of Autism within the wider society. Autism NI has over 20 local support groups across NI which involve over 2000 families. Our Family Support Service deals with 5000 families every year. We receive over 2300 Helpline calls, we provide education and training courses to over 2500 individuals per year. The organisation facilitates post diagnostic support and early intervention programmes to families who have a newly diagnosed child. We also engage in developmental research and lobbying for more resources for Autism services.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Autism NI currently has two active Parent Support groups in this local community that help us to understand the priority needs of the local Autism community. This enables us to provide the courses that are of most benefit to families. We also have an Autism Resource Officer in the area working with newly diagnosed families in the local area who are in need of support and information about Autism.
