We want to buy camping equipment to expand the residential experiences we offer to the young people to include international experiences.
About this cause
1st Willand Guides is a brand new unit, part of the UK’s leading organisation for girls and young women. We provide a safe girl-led environment for girls to explore themselves, their community and the wider world. We meet in Willand but are open to any girls between the ages of 10-14 from the surrounding villages. Our weekly sessions enable us to learn new things, help our community and improve ourselves. We have fun days and weekends away where the Guides learn independent life skills such as respect for others, cooking and personal safety, alongside adventurous activities like climbing, making campfires and stream walking. It is proven that children who are Guides will have greater mental resilience as an adult. We are fundraising to buy camping equipment for weekends away under canvas.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Our aim is to offer each Guide a camp at least once a year, to have an opportunity to become more independent and well rounded individuals. Whilst on camp the girls will be encouraged to think of other people before themselves, be expected to help out in the daily chores such as washing up, collecting firewood and preparing meals, and will improve their team building and problem solving skills.
