About this cause

Our group seeks to raise community spirit and improve the local economy. All our work is carried out on a voluntary basis. Our main activities are: organising festivals (two weeks for summer and a Christmas weekend), undertaking community development projects for example: healthy eating, promoting clubs, societies etc, publication of "Get ready for School" for parents. Supporting local groups in grant applications and items of interest: lobbying and campaigning for town improvements to Donaghadee. We worked closely with the Local Council in the successful application for £1.7m for the Heritage Lottery Fund to restore historic buildings. Assisted in the design of a public realm scheme (£2.5m) and Town Master plan. We loan out our equipment: gazebos, PA system, mobile stage & display boards.

How this cause brings people in the community together

The woodland has been neglected for many years with areas becoming overgrown and littered. More recently there has been evidence of anti-social behaviour. Civic pride will be raised by involving the wider community in the project design and in aspects of implementation. Experience elsewhere indicates that this approach promotes community ownership and resolves many of the problems identified.
