We want to raise funds so that adults with learning disabilities in our group can put on a theatrical production for the community in 2019.
About this cause
Wolds Wonders is an accessible musical theatre group for learning disabled adults from Pocklington and the surrounding area. We are based in a rural area where social isolation can be a real problem for learning disabled people; our aim is to use involvement in the arts as a tool for promoting social engagement in all aspects of society. We offer our members the opportunity to develop skills in music, drama, dance and theatre crafts by organising professionally run workshops, and we aim to put on at least two performances a year. We fully involve the participants in decision making, leadership, supporting and creative roles across all activities, with the aim of developing confidence and life skills and, in some cases, helping members move towards voluntary and paid employment.
How this cause brings people in the community together
We will increase understanding of both the abilities of, and challenges faced by adults with learning disabilities. This will lead to improved integration and a happier community.
