About this cause

I am the Disability Football Development Officer and Fundraiser for Stockport County Community Foundation, a local independent registered charity established in 2007, charitable arm of Stockport County Football Club. We support over 20,000 children, adults and senior citizens across Stockport, Greater Manchester, Tameside, High Peak and Cheshire. Our aim is to use the local community passion for sport, in particular football, to encourage learning and promote healthy lifestyles that will make a real difference to the lives of children, young people and families in our community. One of our key projects is the Disability Football Project that extends physical activity opportunities for disabled adults and young people locally to play football and participate in a range of multisport.

How this cause brings people in the community together

The project benefits the local community by extending the opportunity and choice for disabled people, promoting health and wellbeing, improving self-esteem and confidence, building new skills, reducing social isolation by enabling social networking and building friendships, providing volunteering opportunities and the opportunity for disabled people to take part in physical activity and having fun
