About this cause

Youth Talk offers one- to- one counselling at no charge to young people aged 13-25 who live, work or are being educated in the district of St Albans (including Harpenden, London Colney, Redbourn and Wheathampstead). We currently see between 50-55 young people each week who are suffering from emotional ill-health. All young people self-refer to the service either by telephoning, emailing or directly through our website. We offer all young people who contact us an initial meeting so they can meet with one of our 7 counsellors and find out about the counselling Youth Talk offers and to ask any questions prior to their sessions beginning. Youth Talk is celebrating it's 20th anniversary this year and was founded by a GP who identified the need for a local counselling service for young people.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Young people who are suffering from mental ill-health are unable to function properly, to study or to work effectively. By accessing help early on, before their depression, anxiety or stress takes hold, they can begin to take control of their own lives and ultimately be able to give back to their communities through work etc and will avoid becoming a drain on the benefit, legal or health systems.
