About this cause

As a church we run a Pop up cafe and play session once a month for parents/carers of pre-school children living in Mastrick and Sheddocksley. We recognise that there is a mixed culture living in the parish and we provide a meeting place as a way of bringing folk together so that they can meet new people. Advertising posters are done in English, Arabic and Polish. Our Messy Church runs in the school holidays and is a way of providing a lunch for parents and children. This is more structured and we have games, crafts, a story and something to eat - last week we provided a picnic lunch for everyone. We are in a deprived area of Aberdeen and these events are offered free - but if they wish they can make a small donation.

How this cause brings people in the community together

We helped Syrian refugees last year providing classrooms so that they could learn English. While their parents were doing, this members of the church entertained the children and the idea of the Pop Up cafe was really an extension of this to bring people together from different cultures and help them integrate into the local community.
