About this cause

We provide voluntary first aid and ambulance services at about 180 events per year and teach first aid to about 200 people per year. We also place public-access defibrillators at selected locations. Our work means that fewer people need to go to hospital for treatment and the number of 999 calls is also reduced. On the occasions when a 999 call is needed our preliminary work reduces the transfer time and helps to ensure faster access to definitive treatment. In the past year we have treated people who had stopped breathing or had chest pain or were unconscious. Other patients had fractures or dislocations or underlying illnesses. We aim to develop and expand our services by replacing equipment and by recruiting new volunteers who can be trained to use the best available kit.

How this cause brings people in the community together

It will enable us to give excellent service to local events which are each attended by several thousand people, including the Highland Games and Market Day, Bonfire night, and Black Rock Race. It will enable our volunteers to enhance their skills so that they can give better care at events throughout Fife and further afield. It will directly benefit about 200 people per year for 10 years.
