South Walney Family Hides
Environment
We need to kit out our family friendly hides so that they're bursting with information and fun ways for people to experience nature.
About this cause
Cumbria is renowned for beautiful lakes and mountains, but the superb diversity of habitats also includes some of the best examples of limestone pavement, peat bog, grassland and sand and shingle coastline in the country. Our nature reserves reflect this range and quality of habitat, and provide sanctuary for an array of animals, from red squirrels to seals to nesting ospreys. We are the only voluntary organisation devoted solely to the conservation of the wildlife and wild places of Cumbria. The Trust stands up for wildlife, creates wildlife havens, inspires people and raises environmental awareness. We give people the places to get close and to reconnect with wildlife and nature.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Barrow is the largest isolated coastal community in England & the 5th most deprived district for health deprivation & disability. Never before have so many people been removed from nature. Research shows being outdoors & nature improves people's relationships, mental well-being & physical health. This project gives opportunities to get outdoors, experience the environment & reconnect with nature.
