About this cause

The Langholm Library Trust is open to the public for use as a research and reference facility. We have some 6000 books dating from 1800 and are also a repository for local historical ephemera. Our constitution enjoins us to ‘encourage the use of the Library apartment by the townsfolk of Langholm as a cultural, study and information area’. To this end we provide a volunteer manned, resource rich, learning base for community education and are in the process of building a resources web site for Langholm folk both at home and abroad. Our aim is to bring Langholm’s rich past into the grasp of future generations. Our objective is to expand and improve our public interface to help us better serve the needs of the wider community Financial restraints mean we are unable to develop as we should.

How this cause brings people in the community together

During the last decade the Trust has encouraged the promotion of the Town’s heritage by means of exhibitions, lectures, publications and storyboards. Students of Langholm Academy have formed a link with the Library and have developed local history resources for school and community. We want this trend to continue by encouraging people to be involved in lifting and invigorating community spirit
