Farms for City Children
Education & Skills
We'd like to fit out a food preparation classroom so visiting children can have cooking lessons to prepare our home-grown produce.
About this cause
We are an education charity that offers children from urban areas across the country a unique opportunity to spend a week living and working together on a real farm with real farmers in the heart of the countryside. We have 3 farms - Devon, Gloucestershire and Pembrokeshire. The children visit as a school group with their teachers. We host around 3,500 children a year, mostly aged between 8 and 11, with many from disadvantaged backgrounds. We aim to develop children’s potential, build their confidence and self-esteem, reconnect them with their food and provide open space to play. We enrich the lives of thousands of children each year by offering a life-enhancing, and sometimes life-changing, opportunity - something that the school curriculum usually cannot provide.
How this cause brings people in the community together
The team at Lower Treginnis often work with the local community, through open day events, volunteering opportunities & engaging with local businesses. The food prep classroom will be used frequently at events, which include the annual Open Farm Sunday and Lower Treginnis Fête, as well as several general open days on the farm. We warmly welcome and work with many volunteers during the year.
