Help us recruit and train volunteers to assist our current adviser and extend the period of operation of our Winter Night Shelter.
About this cause
Throughout the year we provide advice on benefits and housing. A case worker acts as an advocate and ensures that vulnerable people get the support and benefits which they are entitled to receive. During the winter months, we run a Night Shelter to provide a warm safe place to sleep and regain their self respect. Our guests are provided support so that 50% typically move into accommodation during or very soon after their stay with us. After their stay, our guests are offered a befriending service to help them adjust to life off the streets.
How this cause brings people in the community together
It will help prevent people becoming homeless or, if already homeless, help them find accommodation. Depending on the individual need, this will involve liaison with the local Job Centre, Social Services, Mental Health Unit, Drug and Alcohol Service and Bromley Housing Department.
