About this cause

The Edinburgh Food Project  runs nine Trussell Trust foodbanks across Edinburgh. To date we have helped to feed over 28,000 people in crisis, of whom over 8,500 were children. This year has already seen an increase in demand of 48%, mainly due to benefit delays/changes and low income, which affect 76% of our clients. We received donations of 80,000kg of food last year - expected to rise to 100,000kg this year. The food is sorted into emergency food packs by volunteers at our warehouse. We then transport the packs to our foodbank centres around Edinburgh.  At the centres, clients not only receive emergency food, but also toiletries, household items, pet food, and baby items. Our volunteers will sit with people, have a chat, offer support and signpost additional help where possible.

How this cause brings people in the community together

1. We can increase delivery capacity, enabling us to help more people in food poverty; 2. It will cut costs, allowing us to enhance the support services we are able to provide to people in need 3. It will allow more volunteers to help with deliveries - expanding the pool of people are able to get involved in supporting us
