Bamford with Thornhill Recreation Ground Trust
Sport
We want to purchase sports equipment to support provision of multi-sports activity sessions for the local children during the summer months.
About this cause
The object of the charity is the provision and maintenance of a recreation ground for the use of the inhabitants of Bamford and Thornhill. Bamford is a small village of approx. 1,250 residents in the Peak District National Park. It is in the middle of Hope Valley and the recreation ground, which covers approx. 11 acres, commands a stunning setting. The grounds are bounded on one side by the River Derwent, with canoeing rights, and there is an orienteering map of the grounds. The Recreation Ground has senior and junior football pitches used by village football teams, as well as hosting tournaments. The grounds also serve as the sports ground for the local primary school. There is a small pavilion with changing rooms, showers and small kitchen. There is also a well-used playground.
How this cause brings people in the community together
There are very limited organised sports sessions or youth clubs in Bamford and as a result many children who live in the village are either less active or travel to Sheffield (12 miles away) to participate in sporting activities. We conducted a survey with 100% of the respondents (parents and children) saying that they would be interested in attending a weekly multi-sports activity session.
