Waltham Forest Community Hub
Social Inclusion
We need to cover the costs of running a weekly Social Club (46 weeks) for older people living in sheltered housing.
About this cause
We provide responsive services for the local community, under four core areas: 1. Affordable community resources for local groups: - affordable space. - we accommodate a Pupil Referral Unit, which refers young people from challenging backgrounds to us for mentoring support. - affordable training for charity/voluntary sector. - we accommodate a weekly Food Market supporting local traders. 2. Empowering young people: - Youth activities and mentoring - engaging local young people aged 13-19. - Weekly youth provision. 3. Employability: - volunteer development through training - work experience opportunities. 4. Community cohesion: - we deliver activities for disadvantaged older people living in sheltered housing including inter-generational projects. Our community events tackle isolation.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Our project will develop better community relations resulting in a reduction in social isolation for older people who have mobility problems and face a lack of social/recreational activities being available locally. It will promote community cohesion as local people take responsibility to improve problems within their locality and create a culture of working together to make positive change.
