Friends of Mill Water School (PTFA)
Education & Skills
We want to buy some new play equipment for children with additional needs, for example an outdoor bouncing frame.
About this cause
Mill Water is the only special school in East Devon and it caters for pupils with a range of complex needs. The students are aged 3-19 and all have severe learning difficulties. Some have multiple conditions such as autism, visual/hearing/speech impairments and mobility problems. As Friends of Mill Water we exist to enhance the lives of our pupils. This might be through therapy - minimising the impact of their conditions where possible and increasing their independence. Or technology - giving the students a voice and allowing them to unlock their potential. Or our personal favourite - play! This is important for all children but vital for ours, enabling them to develop their social skills and physical abilities.
How this cause brings people in the community together
As the only special school in East Devon, we are the catchment school for both our immediate and the wider young disabled community. The play equipment will be used by pupils to gain essential skills as young as 3, right up to leaving age of 19. This means giving them the best possible start to life, right through to leaving school as a young adult.
