About this cause

The fundamental aim of Dewis Centre for Independent Living is to create greater opportunities for disabled people to develop their own independence. This is achieved through developing a range of services and support. The project we think would greatly benefit from this funding runs groups for people with mental health issues and their carers. The aim of these groups is to help reduce the social isolation that can go with having poor mental health or being a carer to someone with it. The groups will run activites to help people gain confidence, learn new skills and allow sharing of experiences.

How this cause brings people in the community together

The benefits for the community generally will be a reduction in the social isolation which often comes with mental ill health and may also have a preventative effect by allowing people to access support at an early stage, thereby combating further deterioration.
