About this cause

The Cluntergate Centre is a volunteer led organisation that serves a its community of Horbury by providing a hub of broad activities that are extremely popular with a diverse cross section of users. The building attracts in excess of 35,000 visitors a year and this is set to increase as knowledge of the centre's significance as a vital local resource widens. Current activities range from classes that encourage well being (Tai Chi, yoga, reading groups, ballroom dancing and walking) to local groups using the centre's spaces for meetings (The Women's Institute, Wine Society, Rotary Club etc). In July 2017, the centre recruited its first manager to continue the objectives of high quality community provision, but with a new objective of attracting younger users through arts based activities.

How this cause brings people in the community together

The project will bring excitement and cohesion to our community insofar that collective 'creative making' and 'play' encourages social inclusion and civic pride. People from diverse backgrounds, ages and economic backgrounds will come together with the single aim of working together within a project that will have a celebratory impact on the place where they live, and that can be repeated again.
