We want to be able to continue to run a local drop in for people with a learning disability. Funds will cover tutors and running costs.
About this cause
Our organisation is run by and for people with a learning disability. The purpose of People First is to promote the inclusion of people with learning disabilities in the community, encourage self advocacy, provide a platform for them to have a voice and a significant say in the way their services are provided and change community attitudes. Activities include a drop in centre, a music project, an outreach project an IT scheme. The drop in is open weekdays from 12- 4pm. The drop in is run entirely by people with learning disabilities with support.
How this cause brings people in the community together
As well as providing a safe and pleasant place for anyone with a learning disability to pop in. People First members aim to change attitudes and negative public perceptions. They also provide entertainment for elderly and disabled people by regular concerts at local day centres and residential homes for the elderly as well as musical open days and Xmas concerts at the towns supermarkets.
