About this cause

We are the local district of the Woodcraft Folk a charity that provides weekly activity sessions for children aged 6-15. We are open to children of all backgrounds, our groups are led by volunteer leaders. The weekly sessions include games, craft, discussions and with the older children exploring social, environmental and global issues. We run camps during the year where children and volunteer adults can work together to cook, clear up, do craft and enjoy the countryside. We aim to ensure that our children have fun, learn to work with a range of other people, develop their self confidence and build an awareness of society around them. We hope that by encouraging the children to feel that they have a stake in society that they can actively work to make the world a better place.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Children attending our groups develop valuable friendships. We model democracy through encouraging children to determine their activities and give feedback in circle discussions. We foster social responsibility through our issue based work and co-operation through our practice. Many of our young people become youth leaders and active campaigners for a better world.
