About this cause

The Woodcraft Folk is a youth movement which was founded in 1925. They were the first nationwide youth organisation to accept both boys and girls, and members of any religion or none. Since then Woodcraft Folk has been the UK's only national, co-operative youth movement. The objects of the organisation are the advancement of education and the empowerment of children and young people for the public benefit by: • encouraging children and young people to participate in society, improving their lives and others through active citizenship; and • promoting the interests and welfare of children and young people Groups meet across London, with the ones in South Norwood starting in September 2017 for children up to 12 years old. Once established, we will also set up groups for older children.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Empowering children and giving them the confidence and understanding to grow into adults who can lead social change. This will benefit the local community in itself. We hope that groups for teenagers will keep children away from the influence of gangs. In addition, we hope to work with other organisations on clearing up the local area, and working on community garden projects.
