About this cause

St Eustachius' Parochial Church Council has the responsibility of co-operating with the incumbent in promoting in the ecclesiastical parish the whole of the mission of the church, pastoral, evangelistic, social and ecumenical. It is governed by the Parochial Church Council Powers Measure (1956) as amended, and by Church Representation Rules. It has maintenance responsibilities for the church building "Tavistock Parish Church" (Grade 2*), and the church centre in Plymouth Road, Tavistock. The church serves the Town of Tavistock and the surrounding rural hinterland of approx 15,000 people. The church attracts in excess of 10,000 visitors each year and hosts a large number of community events including an extensive musical programme. The church celebrates its 700th anniversary in 2018.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Our vision is to engage more effectively with the town, increasing the day-to-day use of the church: as a place of prayer and worship known for the quality of its worship and musical excellence; a public space for concerts, lectures and meetings; as part of, and gateway to, a World Heritage Site; and as a place of outreach, welcome and hospitality to visitors and enquirers.
