We want to redecorate Dagenham Foodbank centre so its a safer, welcoming and convenient place to visit or work in.
About this cause
We run a small community project under the church charity umbrella providing emergency food and support to local residents in crisis. For people on low incomes, a sudden crisis - redundancy, benefit delay/changes, debts or an unexpected bills can mean going hungry. Parents skip meals to feed their children and people choose between paying rent and eating. The foodbank partners with care professionals such as social workers, school support staff etc who identify clients in such crisis and refer them to the foodbank. Our foodbank centres volunteers welcome clients to the foodbank exchanging their vouchers with 3-days food. We take time to listen and signpost clients to further support that will help break the cycle of hunger. We are a part of the Trussell Trust's UK foodbank network.
How this cause brings people in the community together
This foodbank serves people in Dagenham area. The foodbank help to prevent family breakdown, housing loss, crime and mental health problems. When people visit our foodbank centres they meet friendly, non-judgemental, supportive volunteers who take time to listen to their challenges over a cup of tea/snacks and signpost to further support. A clean and welcoming centre will provide added comfort.
