We want to buy food to ensure we have enough to feed the estimated 10-12,000 people who will need our support this year to avoid hunger.
About this cause
Our aim is the prevention and relief of poverty by providing emergency food to individuals and families experiencing food poverty in the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham (LBHF). LBHF is the 31st most deprived Borough in the country. It's affluent in parts but deeply polarised with 55% of children living in the most deprived quintile areas nationally. We provide a holistic approach to tackling food poverty through education, professional advice, support, holiday meal clubs for children, and more. We provide robust and comprehensive signposting to additional sources of help and support, and work in partnership with other agencies. Between 1st April 2016 and 31st March 2017 our food parcels benefited 6050 people. Since 1st April 2017 our parcels have already benefited over 3000 people.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Feedback from clients and referral partners shows that our food parcels prevent crime, relieve stress and anxiety and positively effect the physical and mental health of adults and children. This grant will allow us to top up supplies when needed so that 'no one will go to bed hungry' in our areas of influence. We'd also purchase Halal and ethnic food to ensure our parcels are accessible to all.
