Home-Start Central Bedfordshire
Health
We need money to promote our service in order to recruit and train more Leighton Buzzard volunteers.
About this cause
Home-Start Central Bedfordshire recruits, trains and manages parent volunteers to provide weekly home visits supporting families who are going through a difficult time. This could be because of such stresses as the disability of a parent or a child, bereavement, ill mental health, domestic abuse and poverty. Volunteers provide practical help, emotional support, friendship and mentoring. We work across Central Bedfordshire but began in Leighton Buzzard and still support a good number of Leighton Buzzard families each year. Our objectives are to help children to have the best possible start in life, to relieve sickness, poverty and need amongst children and parents, to help families to become confident and independent.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Having more volunteers means that families are able to have support at a crucial time which prevents stresses becoming crises. Parents are more able to manage the needs of their children and the emotional health of both children and parents is improved. Volunteers gain confidence and skills and a steppingstone into employment. Local parents supporting other parents increases community cohesion.
