About this cause

We support people, their families & carers, living with a life shortening illness in the Highlands to live the best possible life & to prepare for & experience the best possible death. By managing pain & other physical symptoms, we help make time for reflection. Crucially, our team offers advice with the emotional, social & spiritual issues that may arise & works with patients & loved ones at a time of transition to help them enjoy, value and commemorate life. By delivering & sharing our skills in our Inpatient Unit & Day Therapy Centres, in local hospitals & care homes & at home, we seek to provide our patients & their loved ones with respect, dignity & choice both during the patient’s illness & into bereavement. We are an independent local charity & offer our services free of charge.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Our Arts and Crafts programme allows patients to express their emotions and start conversations with loved ones. Often the artwork acts as a legacy, a piece for the family to remember them by. Most of the artwork displayed in Highland Hospice has been made by our patients, celebrating the various individuals who make up our community and who lived their life right until the very end.
