About this cause

King's Seat Community Archaeology project is a partnership between Perth & Kinross Heritage Trust (PKHT) and the Dunkeld & Birnam Historical Society (DBHS). DBHS was formed in 1976 and aims to create interest and encourage the study of local history in the Dunkeld & Birnam Area through various outreach activities including talks and field excursions. PKHT was set up in 1988 with the aim of conserving and promoting archaeology and architectural heritage, for the benefit of residents, visitors and future generations. We have a long history of running community archaeology projects.

How this cause brings people in the community together

The project aims to engage all members to the local community with this nationally important site. All volunteers will be trained how to excavate and record the site and local school children will visit to become an archaeologist for the day. The hillfort has been badly damaged by dense rhododendron growth and the project will result in greater awareness and better management of the site.
