About this cause

St John’s Community Centre is a local Charity based in Catterick Garrison and was established in 1988 to provide a range of services to older people and disabled adults. The day services and general support we give enables people to be included, not isolated, and importantly continue living independently in their own homes. We run a lively day service which provides 30 places three times per week and draws people from Richmond, Catterick and surrounding Villages. We provide various Outreach services our sitting service gives much needed respite to carer's right across Richmondshire through our dedicated volunteers. Our assisted shopping scheme runs twice a week we provide a wheelchair adapted minibus to collect older people and take them shopping to a supermarket of there choice.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Many older people end up socially isolated, the support we can offer from our outreach services, helps people to feel included in the community helping them to come together, make new friends in a warm, welcoming environment. Social contact improves mental wellbeing and physical health resulting in less GP visits and hospital admissions.
