About this cause

North Belfast experiences high levels of cancer diagnoses in comparison to other parts of the city. A cancer diagnosis can bring extreme feelings of fear, isolation, anxiety, distress and helplessness. Cancer Lifeline (set up 1999) is a community based patient led cancer support organisation in North Belfast proving a range of vital support and information services to cancer patients and their families. Services are targeted at the North Belfast community where they are needed most. Cancer Lifeline is a welcome home from home environment where people can come to, to talk about their fears ,worries and anxieties about the impact of their diagnosis. All of the management committee of the project have all experienced a cancer diagnosis so they can relate to clients coming through the door.

How this cause brings people in the community together

People affected by cancer are often unsure about where to go to or who to approach for support following a diagnosis. The proposed News sheet will be a vital tool to direct people to vital and key support services at a time when they are feeling vulnerable. The News sheet will contain key health information which will be relevant to them, directing them to important/life changing support services.
