About this cause

We are a local branch of a national charity who support older people to remain in their own homes and live independently for longer. Our main aims are to reduce loneliness and isolation whilst improving health and wellbeing and building confidence. We do this through social interaction in the form ofactivitiy groups in the local community. Our groups include: 2 lunch clubs, 3 gentle exercise groups, a social group, a local history and reminiscence group, recreation group and a group that go out for a meal together. We do one to one and telephone befriending and we organise regular day trips and events, for all. We have at present 150 members and 35 invaluable volunteers. We run independently from the larger organisation and we have our own bank accounts, constitution and local committee.

How this cause brings people in the community together

We currently support up to thirty people each week to leave their home , some with transport provided by volunteers. This may be the only time they leave the house all week and we may be the only people they speak to.We have scope at this venue to have more people join us for lunch and we feel that we would be able to support more of the older people in the local community to join us.
