About this cause

We are a local mental health charity supporting the people of Plymouth and surrounding districts with their mental health. In the last 12 months, over 3,500 people came through our doors to attend our Recovery College to learn how they could live with long term mental health issues. We support people to become experts in their own self-care and to develop the skills and confidence to manage their own recovery journey. The focus is on using learning activity to complement traditional treatment approaches so that service users are empowered and supported to develop their own solutions. Our aims are: 1) To act as an early intervention service that prevents escalation to specialist mental health services. 2) To support people as part of a step-down pathway into community-led support.

How this cause brings people in the community together

The local community is in one of the 20% most deprived areas in the country and we support many people in the community with their mental health. The café will give people an opportunity to access volunteering to support their recovery, but they will also be able to access new activities such as a book club and craft club etc. alongside access to expertise around health and wellbeing.
