About this cause

Action Medical Research is a Horsham-based charity funding vital research to help sick babies and children. We’re on a mission to save and change children’s lives through medical research, developing treatments, vaccinations and cures. Since we began, we have been funding medical breakthroughs and have helped to beat polio in the UK, fight meningitis, prevent stillbirths and develop ultrasound scanning in pregnancy. Although there’s been progress in medicine today there are hundreds of thousands of sick and disabled babies and children who need our help. Like Alfie, a local boy, who has severe cerebral palsy and Emily, who was born six weeks early as a result of her mum developing pre-eclampsia. We want to save and change more lives of children like these through medical research.

How this cause brings people in the community together

The ultimate goal is to stop so many babies from being born too soon, saving the 1,400 babies who die each year in the UK as a result of being born prematurely. Many of the babies and women at risk will be living in the local community. We hope to be able to fund research which will offer a treatment to protect future babies.
