About this cause

Haddington Rugby Football Club exists to promote the game of rugby in the local area. With 250 members, we have 110 players from 5 to 12 years old in our Minis section, a growing membership of 80 players in our School of Rugby, which we run with our partners Knox Academy, the local high school where we have 5 teams from U12- U18. We are also a truly community based club with players at all levels volunteering in local primary schools and groups to encourage and promote healthy lifestyles. Through rugby, we aim to help children from age 5 upwards to gain life skills that they can take with them into other aspects of their lives. The club house is in the heart of the Haddington community and is used for a number of local fundraising events, summer camps and community activities.

How this cause brings people in the community together

The entire ethos of the School of Rugby programme is about offering young people a pathway into health, wellbeing and life skills, as well as developing the sport at a grassroots level through links with local clubs and schools. By developing SOR players as coaches and mentors, we aim to create a 'virtuous circle' of young people giving back and encouraging younger children to get involved.
