About this cause

South Tyneside Young Carers Service was amalgamated with TEN in December 2016. The Young Carers Service has been in operation for 14years and provides vital support to children and young people who are helping to care for a family member, who may have a serious or long term illness, a disability or a mental health difficulty. Young carers face many disadvantages and difficulties including isolation, emotional difficulties, low confidence and self esteem, poor school attendance and attainment. Young carers are often dealing with bereavement. They are often exposed to bullying and face stigma. Our project aim is to improve the quality of the lives of young carers. A programme of activities is delivered throughout the year giving young carers a well earned rest and break from caring.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Across South Tyneside we have Young Carers registered in every Borough. The project we deliver aims to improve the quality of young carers lives. As the only service in the Borough delivering support for young carers our service is crucial to ensure young carers receive quality, regular and consistent support. As disadvantaged children and young people young carers rely on our support groups.
