We want to upgrade our resource centre and local hub to have the latest technology available for the visually impaired community.
About this cause
Somerset Sight is the local independent charity embedded in the local community providing practical and emotional support to over 3000 people and their families who are blind or visually impaired. We offer holistic support and our services are designed with and for service users to enable sight impaired people to lead fuller more independent lives. The centre for the visually impaired community,the hub for information, advice, voice activated gadgets and gizmos, IT, magnifiers and lighting to support independent living and be able to do the things they enjoy Our core services include volunteer visiting service, mobile advice service, emotional support, activity and social groups, activities for working age, audio library, british wireless for the blind and low vision aids and advice.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Sight loss is a hurdle to overcome not a barrier to life. The VI community is 19000, with around 3500 receiving support through our Resource Centre a year. Most people in the community have friends/family affected by sight loss and know how isolating and debilitating it is. knowing that SS provide expert support is a great comfort and helps all people in the community with and without sight loss.
