The Dorothy Parkes Centre
Social Inclusion
We want to provide free weekly activities to promote social inclusion and improved wellbeing for the local community in Smethwick.
About this cause
The Dorothy Parkes Centre is a community centre based in Smethwick, in the Metropolitan Borough of Sandwell, West Midlands. The centre is open seven days a week to the whole community. Sandwell and Smethwick in particular is diverse and deprived so the centre aims to provide groups and classes that aim at improving physical and mental well being, promote social inclusion, reduce anti-social behaviour and are affordable. We also promote other events and programmes happening throughout the borough. The centre is accessible, all on one level and open to all ages and backgrounds. We are always open to ideas and suggestions from the local community to provide activities which they want which would improve their quality of life. We have a small but passionate team who want to make a difference.
How this cause brings people in the community together
The centre and the activities requested would enable the local community to be active, stimulated, safe and make new friends for little or no cost to them at all. It would help bring the community together, the centre could be used for other activities requested by them. We could host community fun days which they could set up and we could host information sessions on topics important to them.
