Shakespeare Schools Foundation
Education & Skills
We want to give disadvantaged London schools the unique opportunity to perform Shakespeare in their local professional theatre.
About this cause
Shakespeare Schools Foundation (SSF) is a cultural-education charity that uses the unique power of Shakespeare to transform lives. Every year we unite up to 30,000 young people across the UK in a unique opportunity to perform in professional theatres by taking part in the world's largest youth drama project, Shakespeare Schools Festival. Our carefully tailored programmes help pupils to improve their literacy and develop crucial life skills in empathy, confidence and team work. SSF is based in London but works nationwide delivering powerful results in every type of school and with children from every community and background. With inclusive practice at the heart of what we do we show that Shakespeare truly is for everyone and as a result, confidence increases and friendships flourish.
How this cause brings people in the community together
We unite diverse communities in their local professional theatre in an exhilarating experience of Shakespeare. Last year saw 65,000 audience members support young people in their Festival performance, 43% saying they had never visited before. This year over 100 London schools will take to one of our 14 partnered theatres with an audience of parents and the wider community.
