We want to raise awareness of meningitis and provide support to families affected by meningitis – all in loving memory of Edward Dee.
About this cause
Every year over 8,000 people in the UK contract meningitis. 1 in 10 who contract bacterial meningitis sadly die, and a further 1 in 3 are left with life-altering after-effects. Meningitis Now’s vision is a future where no one in the UK loses their life to meningitis and everyone affected gets the support they need to rebuild their lives. To achieve this we: Reduce the impact of the disease by raising awareness Save lives by funding research into vaccines Provide support to families living with the impact of meningitis Provide a powerful, united voice in the fight against meningitis We are a national charity, but we provide support on a local level. Over the last year, we have distributed over 66,000 meningitis symptoms cards in Lancashire, and have offered support to 55 local families.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Edward was such a big part of the local community. He lived life to the full, inspiring both children and adults. The local area has been devastated by the loss of Edward. His family, and the community they live in, are determined to make something positive come out of Edward's death by raising awareness of meningitis and as much money as they can for Meningitis Now.
