About this cause

Baxter's Field is a 4 acre site which is open every day for the public to use for recreation. It is maintained and run entirely by volunteers. It was bought by the community for their use. Our objective is to provide a beautiful open space where all kinds of recreational activities can freely take place. We have also created a small nature reserve where groups from clubs and schools can see and hear a variety of natural plants and creatures. We have built a special access slope for the elderly, wheelchair users and baby prams to use. We encourage participation in care of the field cooperatively with regular maintenance days and newsletters about needs and progress. We especially try to engage with young people to ensure that the field has a future in their hands.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Open spaces are precious facilities for the community. Baxter's Field is accessible to a large housing estate where there are many families and streets of houses where there are only small gardens. It is situated in the heart of Lewes so easily accessible to all. Once arriving at the field we want to make sure the people can enter safely. We take risks very seriously.
