About this cause
Children Today funds equipment that enables children and young people to reach their full potential and gain greater independence. This includes equipment which is not funded by the NHS but can make life-changing differences. The equipment can have a positive impact on life-limiting illnesses and reduce the need for hospital admissions. Some of the equipment which is not funded by the NHS are for leisure activities of the type which improve health and mental well-being, for example, specially adapted trikes, trampolines, swings and sensory equipment. A lot of the equipment also enables social inclusion allowing trips out and time with friends and family which would not normally be possible. We also provide support and signposting to the parents and carers who approach us.
How this cause brings people in the community together
We want more local children and young people with disabilities up to the age of 25 to have the best quality of life and more independence. By providing grants to fund specialised equipment like adapted trikes, powered wheelchairs plus specialist swings and trampolines, we help these children take part in activities or a lifestyle that they may not have previously been able to - helping to change their lives.
