Help us improve our service to people of all ages in short term financial crisis by providing them with donated food and essentials.
About this cause
We are a foodbank supplying short term food relief to people in the area of Appleby, Kirkby Stephen and Tebay, our area extends as far as Penrith. The people to whom we supply food parcels are often in short term financial crisis and are referred to us by a large number of caring organisations. Organisations include health services, social services, education services as well as charities such as the British Legion, Citizens Advice Bureau and local charities such as East Cumbria Family Support. Most of our food is donated by members of the public, some through churches, and schools. There are also local collection points at local businesses such as at the two Coop stores in the area, Kirkby Stephen and Appleby. We are run by a volunteer committee comprised of people from local churches.
How this cause brings people in the community together
The reliance on donated food, with collection points in schools as well as churches and shops means that the community is giving for the benefit of others in their community. This helps with community cohesion. We provide parcels to all ages from new born babies to the elderly and infirm using volunteers from the community. Parcels are collected from community centres, local hubs and businesses.
