About this cause

Liverpool Community Advice (LCA) can trace its history back to 1939 when the present organisation opened as a Citizens Advice Bureau. As a city centre agency, our 17 staff and 40 volunteers advise 4,000 clients a year on 20,000 problems. We hold the Advice Quality Standard and the Specialist Quality Mark certification and are the only voluntary organisation in Merseyside to have been awarded the Housing Possession Court Duty Scheme contract. We hold a Legal Aid Agency contract for specialist housing advice. Last year we changed lives by giving 1000 local people general advice, preventing homelessness for 2005 clients, rescheduling £8,000,000 worth of debt, gaining charitable grants on behalf of 100 vulnerable people totalling £40,000 and supporting 500 clients through Court proceedings.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Our workshops will be held in one of Liverpool's most deprived wards having very high levels of child poverty and economically inactive households. Our project will help by empowering lone parents to make informed financial choices, reduce indebtedness, and maximise income through effective budgeting and financial planning, resulting in financial stability and improved physical and mental health.
