x2y LGBT Youth Group
Social Inclusion
We want to set up a creative project for LGBTQ young people, working alongside local artists to explore identity in our society.
About this cause
x2y LGBT Youth Group supports young people who are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and / or Trans (LGBTQ) or who are questioning their sexuality or gender identity. The group works with young people aged between 11 and 25 years in Wolverhampton and surrounding areas. It aims to preserve and protect their physical and mental health, and promote equality, diversity and social inclusion of LGBT young people. We aim to: • Build confidence • Reduce isolation • Empower young people to feel more comfortable with their sexuality and gender identity • Increase confidence in dealing with homophobia, biphobia and transphobia • Improve mental health and well-being • Raise awareness of appropriate services (e.g. housing, sexual health, counselling) • Build a network of supportive peers and adults
How this cause brings people in the community together
This project aims to challenge misconceptions and stereotypes about the LGBTQ people in our communities and encourage an open discussion around the way we as a community can tackle bullying, homophobia and transphobia. x2y want to reach and support more young people and their families who may be struggling with their identity and who may also be suffering from mental health or well-being problems.
