About this cause

The Museum fulfils a dual role: it has a collection of artefacts, documents, interactive displays and photographs telling the history of the village and its environs. The Centre is the main source of local information for residents and visitors; providing maps, leaflets, accommodation advice. Being in the middle of Braunton, the staff (volunteers) living locally are able to answer many questions. The Museum is used by students from local primary schools, Braunton Academy, Petroc and the University of Plymouth. It is of considerable value to older residents who enjoy visiting and reminiscing about the area in which they have lived for years. To make it even more attractive the museum now needs external modifications and internal restructuring to provide more exhibition and storage space.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Making the Museum more visually attractive should encourage more locals and visitors to enter the museum. With the present entry via the shop visitors may not immediately be aware that there is a museum beyond the shop. Additional exhibition space would permit more temporary exhibitions and easier layout of artefacts encouraging more residents to visit the Museum, particularly a younger age-group.
