About this cause

Ackworth Community Library offers free, open access to all members of the local community and the wider area, with an active membership of over 1700. As well as providing a traditional lending library we offer computer access and user support, a readers group, coffee mornings, volunteering opportunities for people of all ages and abilities and children's activities. We deliver a programme of school holiday and after school activities for children aged from 3 months to 16, including a summer reading scheme, home book delivery service to housebound residents, support and advice to job seekers, the supply of project books and a 'mini, mobile library service to 7 local schools, literacy support to members with English as a second language, printing/photocopying services and work experience.

How this cause brings people in the community together

The project will help raise speech and development skills in pre school children, encourage and support reading and literacy in children and adults, engender social inclusion, fight discrimination and combat isolation and lonliness helping to stave off physical/mental illness and demantia.
